As an entirely volunteer-run organisation, we are constantly on the lookout for reliable, animal-loving people who have the time and enthusiasm to help us out occasionally in many areas of our rescue work. Positions are casual, and usually require a minimum of five hours per week. We are happy to be flexible to fit in with your schedule too!
The areas we need regular help with include:
FOSTER CARE (SYDNEY-WIDE)
You can read about our Foster Care program in full detail here.
As a Transport volunteer, you would assist us with such tasks as picking up new Maggie’s pets from pounds/private surrender homes and driving them to their foster homes; collecting donations and bringing them to our Office HQ in Marrickville, or distributing them to our foster carers; and taking our foster pets to and from vet appointments, event days etc. You will need your own car and driver’s license to be a Transport volunteer.
HOME CHECKS (SYDNEY-WIDE)
As a Home Checks volunteer, you would be responsible for visiting the homes of our potential foster carers and potential adopters and carrying out a visual assessment of their properties, inside and out, to ensure their ‘pet friendliness’ (suitable fencing, secure gates, no hazardous materials or toxic plants etc). Home checks usually take around 10-15 minutes. Before your first Home Check (if you have never done one before), you will be provided with a checklist, or one of our experienced Home Checks volunteers will attend the check with you. You will need your own car and driver’s license to be a Home Checks volunteer.
MARKET DAY STAFF (MARRICKVILLE)
As a Market Day volunteer, you would join us on the Maggie’s Rescue stall at Addison Road Markets – we’re there every second Sunday between 9am-3pm, promoting our pets for adoption, talking about our rescue work and selling raffle tickets. Market Day is one of our most important fundraising streams, so having a fully-manned stall every fortnight is essential to our existence as an organisation. There are usually at least two people on the stall for each 2-3 hour shift. It’s lots of fun (and sometimes our dogs and cats come along too, so you can have a snuggle)!
And of course, your donations are always greatly appreciated too! Donations ensure we can continue to rescue dogs and cats from high-kill pounds and provide them with vet care, behavioural assessment and training, and quality food, treats, toys and bedding until they find their forever homes.
